If you suffer from dry mouth, you most likely have a dry, cottony feeling in your mouth that just won’t seem to go away. This can be quite troublesome, especially because you might feel like you are thirsty all the time. The good news is that there are things you can do to help your dry mouth, and our doctor, Dr. Jerry Butler, is more than happy to tell you all about them. Those things are:
-Frequently sip on water or sugar-free liquids: Sipping on water and other sugar-free liquids can moisten the mouth and keep you hydrated. It can also help wash away bacteria and acid in the mouth that cause dental problems. So, make sure to sip on liquids throughout the day.
-Chew sugar-free gum: Sugar-free gum can improve saliva flow because that is the natural response when chewing. It’s best that the gum is sugar free so you don’t promote cavities while you chew. Feel free to chew gum after each meal.
-Use over-the-counter, artificial saliva: Artificial saliva typically comes in the form of a liquid or aerosol. All you need to do is frequently spray it into the mouth. This moistens the mouth and relieves the discomfort associated with dry mouth.
