What you eat can impact your health, both dental and overall. And if you have canker sores, it may determine what you can eat comfortably. Today we would like to briefly talk about different foods that you can eat until your sores heal, as well as those that may help speed up the healing process.
Before we do this, however, we should first describe what a canker sore is. They are white sores that can have a red area around them. They may not be contagious, but they are often confused with cold sores, which usually occur outside of your mouth. Cankers can be small and singular, or they could form in larger groups, and they can reoccur.
While you have a sore, you might want to avoid foods that are acidic, spicy or even citrus, because they can all cause irritation. Bland foods like dairy, cooked or canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, cooked or canned fruit, tofu or scrambled eggs may be comfortable to eat until it heals. You could also try oatmeal, soft shredded proteins, pudding or soups.
To help speed up the healing process, you can drink through a straw to completely pass over the sores. You might also eat foods that are high in proteins and calories. While doing these, be sure to maintain your normal dental hygiene, but be careful not to aggravate the sores.
