Why do we apply dental sealants? The primary reason is to shield your chompers from unnecessary damage resulting from bacteria and leftover food particles in your mouth. Keep reading to see exactly what we mean by this.
It can be tricky to brush every spot and corner of your chompers (including those tricky-to-reach molars), but brushing and flossing your pearly whites are still the number one ways to defend your teeth from cavities and tooth break down. However, when it’s called for, we can use a dental sealant to shield your chompers. Oral sealants are protective coatings made of plastic and composite dental materials that stick to your chompers. When you have a dental sealant on your tooth, bacterial acids will find it much tougher to pierce the enamel and cause any lasting harm – though you should still brush and floss to be safe! The oral sealant will only help to delay the inevitable tooth erode if you’re not brushing twice and flossing once per day.
